WASHINGTON – June 24, 2021 - The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has unveiled the winning projects for the 2021 edition of the AIA Small Projects Awards. Now in its eighteenth year, the awards were established by the Small Project Design (SPD) Knowledge Community to “recognize small-project practitioners for the high quality of their work.” The initiative also seeks to raise awareness of the value and excellence that architects can apply to projects regardless of size, brief, or scope.
Atelier Xi’s Peach Hut project is among the eleven winners this year. It is also the first winning entry of the award from outside of North America in the past ten years. Past recipients of the award includes Marlon Blackwell Architect, Olson Kundig, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, and Bjarke Ingels Group etc.
“A joyful yet efficient and compact design,” noted the jury. “The project addresses community needs and sources local employment and purchasing opportunities in a great site and setting. It soars above the tree line, providing vistas through its strategically placed apertures and fenestration. A great example of structural rationality with aesthetic appeal.”
